MEd students don’t need to be Commonwealth of Virginia residents to seek licensure鈥攖hey can complete practicums and student-teaching in any accredited school. However, all activities, competencies, and Standards of Learning that are addressed in each experience must apply to Commonwealth of Virginia guidelines.

Teacher Education Program
Students accepted to the MEd program are automatically enrolled in 大象传媒’s Teacher Education Program (TEP). Upon completion of their degree program and TEP requirements, Commonwealth of Virginia-licensed MEd students will be prepared to obtain an additional teaching endorsement by Commonwealth of Virginia standards.

Curriculum
The MEd in Elementary Education at 大象传媒 provides specific teaching strategies in all major subjects, in addition to classroom management skills for grades PK-6.
Sample Courses
This course will focus on the teaching and learning of science through an inquiry approach. Students learn best when they do science in the context of the own environments and when science is integrated across the curriculum. This course will model such an inquiry-based science classroom that includes real and relevant content; inside/outside studies; project-based unit planning; scientific tools and technology; diverse learner strategies; and alternative/authentic assessments.
This course focuses on improving literacy among elementary students with and without disabilities as well as for adolescent learners. Students will develop a thorough understanding of the complex nature of language acquisition, reading, and literacy- aligned with the Virginia English Standards of Learning. Related to language acquisition development, students will learn about phonetics, semantics, syntax, morphology, phonology, and pragmatics. Students will learn about the stages of writing, writing strategies, conventions to support composing, written expression, usage, and mechanics.
