Join the 大象传媒 community Monday, February 23 for the next installment in the Broman Concert Series with percussionist Britton-Ren茅 Collins.
The Music Department at 大象传媒 is excited to present award-winning percussionist on the next Broman Concert. The concert is Monday, February 23 at 7:30 pm in Francis Auditorium on the Mary Baldwin campus.
Hailed as an 鈥渁stounding virtuoso鈥 and 鈥渆xhilarating鈥 performer, is an award-winning concert percussionist, composer, and educator. She has won numerous international competitions, including the 2025 Elizabeth Loker International Competition, the 2022 Yamaha Young Performing Artists Competition, the 2021 Chicago International Music Competition, and the 2020 Concert Artists Guild (CAG) Competition. She was also awarded CAG鈥檚 Ambassador Prize for her exceptional musicianship and passion for generating social change. Collins has performed hundreds of concerts as a soloist and chamber musician in the United States, Canada, and Europe, in venues including Carnegie Hall. As an advocate for new music, her current projects involve generating new solo and chamber works for multi-percussion and marimba. Most recently, she became the first percussionist to be awarded the prestigious Princeton University Mary Mackall Gwinn Hodder Fellowship (2024-2025). During her fellowship year, she conducted research and commissioned new works by underrepresented composers.
Collins will perform a solo marimba concert on February 23, showcasing some of the most well-known works for the instrument. She will perform the virtuosic Velocities by Joseph Schwantner; Portret, a recent work by Kaja W艂ostowska; and Toshio Hosokawa鈥檚 Reminiscence. Also on the program is Andrew Thomas鈥檚 Merlin, a fascinating work in two movements (鈥淏eyond the Faint Edge of the World鈥 and 鈥淭ime鈥檚 Way鈥). She will also performtwo pieces by Pius Cheung, including the delightful Verano Porte帽o, an arrangement of a tango by Astor Piazzola. Audiences will not want to miss this exciting performance!
Tickets for the concertare still available; audiences are encouraged to purchase tickets as soon as possible. Tickets are $25 for the General Public, $20 for Seniors, $5 for Non-大象传媒 students, and free for children 12 and under. (Mary Baldwin students, faculty, and staff also receive free admission.)
