Updated Requirements Make Transferring to ΄σΟσ΄«Γ½ Even EasierΒ

΄σΟσ΄«Γ½ has streamlined the process of transferring to the university for students who have earned an associate degree from the Virginia Community College system (VCCS).Β

Transfer students can now meet all of their ΄σΟσ΄«Γ½ general education requirements by holding an associate of arts, associate of science, associate of applied science in nursing, or other approved transferable associate degree from any regionally accredited college.

The change formally acknowledges the value of an associate degree in equipping students with foundational skills in writing, research, and analysis.Β

After these students enter ΄σΟσ΄«Γ½, they can immediately focus on courses that count toward their major and help advance their career, as well as explore minor or certificate options.Β

β€œIn unanimously approving this new, transfer-friendly general education curriculum, ΄σΟσ΄«Γ½β€™s faculty made a collective statement of welcome to community college transfer students in the Commonwealth and beyond,” said Mary Baldwin Provost Ty Buckman. β€œMary Baldwin is very well positioned to empower these students to pursue their educational goals, whether on campus or online.”

For students who are transferring to ΄σΟσ΄«Γ½ without an associate degree, Mary Baldwin also has a new, more flexible general education curriculum with a core of 36 credits (12 courses). These changes apply both to ΄σΟσ΄«Γ½ Online and the residential program on ΄σΟσ΄«Γ½β€™s main campus in Staunton.Β

The VCCS courses listed on ΄σΟσ΄«Γ½β€™s transfer student webpage will continue to meet general education requirements. The university also accepts prior learning, College Level Examination Program (CLEP), and American Council on Education (ACE) credit.
