Soprano Julia Bullock Opens Broman Concert Season

The ´óÏó´«Ã½ Music Department is pleased to announce this season’s opening Carl Broman Concert, featuring the internationally-renownedÌýsopranoÌý.ÌýShe will perform alongside the award-winning pianistÌýÌý7:30 p.m. Oct. 29, 2018, in Francis AuditoriumÌýon the Mary Baldwin campus. Their program features works byÌýFranz Schubert,ÌýSamuel Barber, Gabriel Fauré,ÌýAlberta Hunter, Billie Holiday, andÌýNina Simone.

Equally at home with opera and concert repertoire, BullockÌýhas captivated audiences with her commanding stage presence. Her versatile artistry was recently recognized with her appointment as 2018-19 Artist in Residence for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s MetLiveArts Series in New York. Recent performances include launching the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s season with Andris Nelsons in its Bernstein Gala, and Pamina in concert performances ofÌýDie ZauberflöteÌýwith Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Her accolades include a 2016 Sphinx Foundation Medal of Excellence, Lincoln Center’s 2015 Martin E. Segal Award, First Prize at the 2014 Naumburg International Vocal Competition, and First Prize at the 2012 Young Concert Artists International Auditions.

AridaÌýis a pianist and vocal coach based in New York City who specializes in both opera and art song. He has performed with mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard, soprano Simone Osborne, and flutist Sir James Galway, among others.

The Broman series continues onÌýFeb. 21, 2019, with the exceptional classical accordionist Hanzhi Wang. Mary Baldwin’s popular Sunday Recital Series also continues with guitarist Rafael Scarfullery 3 p.m. on Nov. 4.
