In recent years, a diverse cross-section of artists have played Rickenbacker guitars. In 1979, Tom Petty and Mike Campbell of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers used vintage 1960s models to attain that toaster-pickup jangle. The high-gain pickup sound is associated with acts such as The Jam and R.E.M.

Considering how distinct they are sonically and physically, it is interesting to note how many players from different genres love 'Rickies'. From punk to jangly pop to stadium rock, there is a diverse list of artists who have used Rickenbacker electric guitars, including Pete Townshend, Thom Yorke and Jimmy Page.

They even went to an Eagles concert in Cleveland, heard Joe Walsh sing Life's Been Good, and then read his handwritten lyrics in the hall. 041b061a72
